Moving can seem like a daunting task, but that’s where local movers in Colorado can help! By having a service help you move your items out of your current home and into your new one can relieve some of the usual headaches that moving can bring. You can also strategically plan how to pack to make it easy to get everything in boxes and quickly identify where items are when unpacking. Some of these top methods will be the best way for a seamless move!
As you begin packing, set aside or make note of all the essentials you will need to keep with you during your move. This could include clothes, toiletries, a few cups and dishes, medicines, shoes, electronics and chargers and more. It may be beneficial to download a list app on your phone and have all of these essentials in the list so you know what they are. Before moving you can keep these in place and then put them in a bag to take with you for easy access, as they will be the last things you pack. You can keep these items in a bag, or in clear plastic totes for easy access.
For everything else, when you start packing, start with your decor and books. Place fragile items in bubble wrap or newspaper to help avoid damage during the move. Next, make your way to your kitchen and pack non-essential kitchen items. Be sure to put all fragile items in bubble wrap or newspaper too. Next, tackle clothes and linens. When packing clothes, if there are any on hangers, don’t worry about taking the time to take them off the hangers and fold them. This will save time when unpacking. Last, prepare all of your appliances to be moved. This can include cleaning and unplugging them. The week of your move can be tricky for refrigerated items. Try to keep purchasing new items at a minimum and pack food in coolers that you absolutely need to keep and quickly get them refrigerated when you arrive to your destination. Keep the refrigerator door shut to keep in the cold air.
Anything to help your move go smoothly will help create a better experience, as well as help maintain the quality of your valuables. When you are ready to move, roughly two months out keep Good Housekeeping’s Complete Moving Checklist handy to help with moving tasks for each week. Next, have a yard sale or donate items to charity that you no longer need. Moving is a great time to de-clutter and help another cause at the same time! When you are packing, be sure to label everything with the room they belong in and what items are in the box. This will help during the unpacking process more than you may realize. To help avoid spills with toiletries and cleaners, remove their lids, cover the top with saran wrap then put the lid back on. Last, vacuum seal bags are easy to use and are huge space savers that will also help you store off season clothes and other items.
